Default Getting Started

This guide is intended to help new players make a reliable, practical build that will help them earn gold for standard and other upgrades, and learn the game's basic and complex details.

Step 1. Pick a class. I have sorted the 26 available classes into categories based on difficulty of play for new players, and have explained what kind of weapon user they (usually) are. I suggest the classes ranked beginner for beginners (smart, huh?). These classes are in no way inferior to the more advanced classes, they are simply easier to play. I will only detail how to build the first four classes listed.

Beginner:
Warrior (Melee)
Weaponmaster (Melee)
Archer (Archery/Bow)
Vampire (Usually Melee, Sometimes Archery/Bow)

Medium:
Adventurer (Any)
Dark Knight (Melee)
Rogue (Melee)
Ranger (Archery/Bow)

Advanced:
Beastmaster (Melee)
Tactician (Melee)
Necromancer (Caster)
Warlock (Caster)
Magician (Caster)
Wizard (Caster)
Alcoholic (Any)
Guardian (Melee, and very rarely Archery/Bow)
Jeweler (Usually a caster, sometimes used as secondary for hybrid casters)

Expert:
Paladin (Any, but most players use melee)
Regener (Any)
Trapper (Any)
Priest (Caster)
Angel (Caster)
Druid (Caster)
Trader (Any)
Enchanter (Caster- often only used for CA, as most grey gems are sub-par)
Craftsman (Any)

Skip step 2, unless you decide to make your own build, without following my guide to the letter.
Step 2. Choose a weapon type. Caster classes should use staves, archer classes should use bows, and melee classes have a choice of slash, crush, pierce, or whip, though the latter is not recommended for new players.

Slash is based on reliable mid-high damage, crush is based on large max damage, and pierce is based on reliable minimum damage with procs to do extra damage. Pierce is the hardest of these three to start with, but it is possible.

Whips do damage in the same way that slashing weapons do, but they do less damage with the weapons themselves and more by giving bonuses to pet damage. Because the bonuses are greatly reduced below for low level players who can only use one pet, I do not recommend whips when starting out.

Step 3. Set your learning to passive advancement. Open the skills window by clicking on the box with the checks on the right of your screen. Select the learning skills category and right click passive advancement, then click passive training. Once your passive advancement skill level reaches 1 you will be able to select non-learning skills for passive training, allowing you to gain exp without doing anything, even when logged out. (Once your passive advancement level is 1 you should switch to Advanced Learning).

Step 4. Set your account settings (after account creation and logging in). First, right click and click on 'Disable Auto Stat Cycling', so that there is an X next to it when you right click and see that menu again.

Next, I suggest normalizing chat colours so that you can better read messages from players attempting to assist you. To do this, right click and click on Interface Options, then click 'Override Player Colors'.

Explore the interface, filter, and chat options and set them up how you like them. They are all self-explanatory so I won't waste time explaining the ones other than those that I have already explained.

TO BE CONTINUED WHEN I HAVE MORE TIME

For slow effects, use the slow % but as a negative.

Just repeat for multiple effects.

DO NOT multiply by 1+slow% to get your new delay. 1*1.4 is not the same as 1/0.6 and your answer will be wrong.

Class #1- Warrior

Before starting, make sure you have completed steps 1, 3, and 4.

First, you'll need to do the bothersome tutorial. Buy a Gnarled Club from the general store, and equip it. You will have enough gold to do this without asking other players for help. Continue the tutorial, following all the instructions.

When your Passive advancement level reaches 1, change your learning skill to Advanced Learning, and set the Crushing skill (in the Weaponry tab) to passive. You will now gain passive experience in this skill. Later, you will need to select this skill for active training.

Get the quests from the seer, and go kill rats and crabs in the docks until the tutorial tells you that you have enough trophies gathered. Make sure that you have melee selected for active training, in the Stats tab. When you level up in melee, distribute all your points into Str, and click confirm. Then, switch your active Stat to be trained to Defense.

When you level up in defense, distribute the stats evenly; that is, 1 Agi, 1 Cnt, and 1 Dur per Defense level. After leveling defense once, switch to melee. Continue switching, distributing the same way every time. (Although you may want to add a small amount of Dex occasionally).

So then, back to you finishing your tutorial. Make sure you have crushing set to active, and drag and drop some combat trophies (shift+click to grab the whole stack) to the Altar of Steel.

To be continued, I'm getting bored of this. Sorry.
